At home with Diane Perreau | Season 3 - Episode 5
AT HOME WITH - DIANE PERREAU
- Hello Diane, can you introduce yourself?
Hello NV! My name is Diane, and I'm a former operating room nurse. Today, I'm a content creator and I've developed my Made in France clothing brand in Paris: JASPE by Diane. I'm also the proud mother of a little cocker spaniel: Matcha!
- How would you define your interior style? What inspires you?
I love sober, minimalist, chic interiors, with beautiful, noble materials. In terms of my inspirations, having lived both in Australia and Paris, I like a bright Australian style mixed with Haussmannian style - I've really tried to do a mix of the two in our home.
- If we've understood correctly, you've done everything in this house.
Absolutely everything! We completely renovated it to make it a clean, uncluttered place that really looks like us... In the past, the house was divided into 2 separate duplexes and 4 walls, so we decided to change that by recreating real spaces with the help of our architect Malaury Labat, Studio Labat.
- What was your biggest challenge?
On this project, our greatest difficulty was to make concessions, but above all to make concessions from a distance because we were still living in Australia when we bought the house. We had to plan ahead and figure out what we really wanted without actually being there.
- How did you come up with the design and the spaces? What's your favorite room?
I started from the idea that I wanted a house where the sun could come in everywhere, which is pretty hard to find in Bordeaux since town houses often have low ceilings. Unfortunately it's raining today, but it's still very bright in general.
- What advice would you give to someone wishing to embark on a renovation and interior design project?
In my opinion, it's best to work with an architect and take your time: don't rush into anything! If you have an idea, go for it and see it through, even if the craftsmen tell you otherwise, there are always solutions. I had to fight to make the arch I wanted so badly, and the result is there!
- How important is interior design to you?
Interior design is obviously very important to me. Like most of us, it's essential to feel good at home, to be in an inspiring, soothing, bright place that you've decorated yourself. But with my job, it's even more important: I work on my 2 activities from home, and I'm there all day, so I have to feel good.
- What do you like best about NV GALLERY? What's your favorite piece?
I love the simplicity combined with the efficiency of the designs, the sobriety of the pieces and above all their timelessness and quality. My favorite piece is my PAUL sofa, which is also the Matcha sofa! You can't change a sofa like you change a sweater: it has to be beautiful, comfortable and last the test of time! NV GALLERY ticks all these boxes for me.
- What's your typical day like? How do you manage your various activities?
My JASPE by Diane workshops are in Paris, so I don't really have a typical day. I juggle between Paris at the beginning of the week and Bordeaux the rest of the time. I've set up my office on the top floor of my house, with a slightly different decor to separate the work and home environments. It gives me a change of scene and keeps everything separate, even though I work all over the house!
- What's the link between your interior and your style? ?
That's a very interesting question! I'd say I'm more daring in my looks than in my decor! But I still stick to the same colors; for my style, I'm more inclined towards neutral tones.
- Finally, a book, a website, a film, an address, a recent discovery... that you'd like to share with us?
Recently, I loved the "Path of the Olive Tree" series on Netflix, which talks about family constellations in healing and personal development. It's super interesting and fascinating, I recommend it!
