SEASON 3 - EPISOD 1

At home with Bon Entendeur

[NVG] – Hello Bon Entendeur, can you introduce yourselves?

Arnaud: Hello NV GALLERY! We’re Pierre and Arnaud, two childhood friends from the south of France – I’m from Aix-en-Provence and Pierre is from Corsica. We met when we were 13, so we’ve been friends for over 15 years, and of course, alongside that, we make music.

For more than 10 years now, we’ve had a project called “Bon Entendeur.” We first became known through electronic music mixtapes, and then by remixing and creating original tracks. Today, we’ve just released our third album, “Rivages,” with Sony Columbia. We’re in the middle of a tour, and we took the time this morning to welcome NV GALLERY and show you our inspiring studios.

[NVG] – Can you tell us the story behind your musical journey and how it influences your daily life?

Pierre: Our story has really been a chain of improbable twists and turns between Arnaud and me. We started with mixtapes – as music lovers, we spent our lives listening to music and sharing it. Honestly, if someone had told us 12 years ago, when we made our first mixtape, that one day we would release three albums and go on international tours, we never would have believed it.

But there were several key steps, including our first remix, “Le temps est bon,” which completely changed our lives. It gave us the desire to move from mixtapes to production – first remixing, then creating original productions. Now, 12 years later, with over 50 mixtapes and three albums, we’re welcoming you between tours to answer all your questions!

[NVG] – Your offices were furnished with NV GALLERY. Which rooms or atmospheres inspire you the most?

Pierre: One of the rooms that inspires us the most and where we feel the most comfortable is the living room just behind us. We spend a lot of time there, especially relaxing when we return from tour with Arnaud. We talk about everything, but mostly about music. A good part of our vinyl collection is there, along with a few books – it’s really the place where we like to imagine what comes next.

[NVG] – How did you think about designing this space?

Arnaud: We’re in an old factory here, a space with history and lots of somewhat hidden areas. So we have three large areas: a workspace, a dining area, and a sunken living room. The idea was to connect these three spaces to encourage movement between them and to spend time in each. We made sure to choose sofas that match the level of the lower living room so as not to block the view. You don’t feel excluded in any room – everything is interconnected, which was really important to us.

[NVG] - Do you believe your environment and furniture influence your creative process? If so, in what way?

Pierre: I think the furniture in our studio—and the studio in general—is a major source of inspiration for Arnaud and me. We spend so many days on the road and commuting that it’s essential to feel good when we come home after the exhaustion of touring.

The living room is where we develop the vast majority of our ideas; it’s actually where we imagined our third album, "Rivages." I can still see all those evenings spent talking, brainstorming, and deciding which direction we wanted to take together. So yes, it’s vital to feel comfortable in a studio where we spend most of our days, but it also needs to be a source of inspiration. I’m thinking of the books and vinyl records that surround us—we remember buying them, trying to sample them, and finding a spark for this album, and perhaps even the next one. This is truly where all our ideas are born, for our past projects and obviously for future ones as well.

[NVG] - Which three words would you choose to describe the atmosphere you’ve created in your office with NV GALLERY furniture?

Pierre: I would say Atypical.
Arnaud: Vintage!
Pierre: …And Warm, perhaps!

[NVG] - Which piece from our collection do you think best embodies the balance between tradition and modernity—a duality that also seems to be at the heart of your music?

Arnaud: Well, we’ve always had a very strong duality between two eras in our musical project. We draw a lot of inspiration from the 70s, which we try to update using the techniques and tools available today. So, while we’re deeply inspired by the past, we aim to make it contemporary by rearranging it, using different synthesizers and software that allow us to go further and do things differently.

This duality is also easily found in some of the furniture we have here. For example, our PAUL sofas in ultra-comfortable corduroy—they’re inspired by a vintage 70s aesthetic that’s very dear to us. In my mind, it strongly evokes that period; my grandfather's trousers, for instance. It’s quite funny to have a sofa in that specific material—one you wouldn't necessarily have bet on a few years ago. They perfectly represent that duality between two eras.

[NVG] - What are your upcoming projects, and how will this space contribute to them?

Pierre: For now, our upcoming projects are mostly about touring. We released our third album, "Rivages," last March, and since then, we’ve been lucky enough to have a great festival season this past summer in France. We followed that up this winter, starting in early November, with an international tour. We've had the chance to play in all the major European capitals, as well as parts of North America, including Mexico and California. In fact, we’re heading back to Canada in February for Montreal, followed by a full tour across the United States—from the East Coast to the West Coast—so that leaves very little time for musical creation. Right now, our heads are down, and our suitcases are constantly packed. We unpack them and then immediately repack them before hitting the road again. We’ll be able to rest and enjoy the cozy atmosphere of our studio once these tours wrap up around March. That’s when we can reflect on what's next, perhaps imagine a future album, and see where the wind takes us!
